It's bad enough that Snapchat's CEO Evan Spiegel basically lied to the app's users by telling them that their messages were actually temporary and selling a service based on the ephemeral nature of "snaps" as well as secrecy and privacy. The app is anything but. On top of multiple ways for each and every snap to be saved by any user it is sent to, the company also failed to secure the Find Friends feature of the app allowing attacks that garnered the names and phone numbers of millions of users.

But now...now emails from this asshole's days in Greek life have resurfaced and proved him to be an even bigger douche than anyone first thought.

So yeah...I think you get the picture. Women are bitches, sluts, and here for his and his Greek buddies pleasure in the drunken debauchery ragefests. "Gay" is a perfectly acceptable term and interchangeable term for stupid. Fat chicks exist to be the butt of his jokes. Basically, he's a misogynistic, ignorant bastard who spent his college career drinking, partying, and disrepecting as many people as possible. He is the epitome of a Bro. And before you go defending him, these aren't 20 years old. They're from less than 4 years ago. He's 23, made an app that does not fulfill its promises, turned down a 3 billion dollar deal with Facebook, and still lives with his dad. People can surely change in 4 years time, but given his current status in life, I doubt he's changed all that much. These sorts of attitudes are ingrained as we have seen over and over again in the wake of the Elliot Rodgers murders. They don't just disappear. It takes life experience and exposure to remold those kinds of cultural beliefs, and this guy still lives with Daddy. Not to mention he and his business partner are still entangled in a lawsuit where a 3rd Bro has stated he should receive stock and capital in the company as part of the creating team behind Snapchat (and there are emails to prove it). Has he really changed all that much then? Doubtful. 

To his credit, he issued a half assed apology stating his is mortified that these emails were leaked. But what's he mortified about? The fact that this could cost him money now that he's turned down Facebook? He says he no longer feels that way towards women. I want proof. Employ more women. The tech industry is highly sexist already and women in the tech field often make much less than their male counterparts. Even Google admits to only having around 30% female workers. The co-creator of Rap Genius, a rap/hip-hop annotation web site, had to resign this week after making misogynistic comments about Elliot Rodgers' manifesto. Last month, the CEO of an advertising platform, RadiumOne, was terminated after a domestic violence incident. Programmers have bragged about recruit parties involving naked women in a hot tub. Women in bikinis have been used for start-up pitches. Sexist apps have been showcased at tech conferences (like an app named Titstare where you take photos of yourself staring at tits. I mean, seriously?). The industry is drowning in misogyny.

If he wants to make changes, employ more women and pay them equal pay, break the sexist cycle that exists in the industry, and start doing more to actually make changes in our culture and especially in the industry he works in now. A few lines of a public apology means absolutely shit without actions to back it up. Until then, until we see action, he remains a stereotypical Greek douche and needs to grow the fuck up.
